INDIANAPOLIS - The Fort Hays State women's basketball team is one of 10 teams currently under consideration for selection into the 2023 NCAA Division II Central Region Championships, announced Wednesday (Feb. 15) by the NCAA office.
In recent years the NCAA has released the first set of region rankings in alphabetical order before announcing the teams in rank order in subsequent releases. The Tigers are one of six MIAA programs in the region's top 10, joined by three schools representing the Northern Sun and one institution from the Great American Conference.
The Tigers are 19-8 on the year, including a 17-8 record against Division II opponents and a 17-7 in-region record. Fort Hays State has played the third-toughest strength-of-schedule in the region, a number that will only increase after final two weeks of the regular season.
Fort Hays State has been selected to play in each of the last five regional championships and in seven of the last eight tournaments. FHSU has been the top overall seed in the region three times over the last eight years and has played in a trio of regional finals.
Fort Hays State's final three opponents of the year are all listed in the rankings, including Pittsburg State, Missouri Southern and Nebraska-Kearney. FHSU will open the final stretch on Thursday (Feb. 16) at Pittsburg State beginning at 5:30 p.m.
