๐Ÿ€ Hays boys advance to sub-state finals with 20th win

Hays High hosted Arkansas City to open postseason basketball for the second time in three years. The Indians entered as the top overall seed in 5A West after a 19-1 season. They won the three team tie based on defensive points allowed. Arkansas City made it to postseason as the sixteen seed at 3-17.

The first half recorded just 22 total shots between the two teams. Ark City led just once at 4-3 despite shooting 70% over the first sixteen minutes. Hays led 11-4 after one quarter and pushed their advantage to 16-8 three minutes into the second quarter.

The Bulldogs chipped the lead down to three with a 8-3 run before the Indians scored the final points of the second quarter for a 21-16 halftime lead.

Highlights

Hays never led by less than five points during the second half. The Indians opened the third quarter on a 7-2 run for their first double digit lead at 28-18. They pushed the lead to eleven twice in the third quarter including 34-24 in between quarters.

The Indians led by at least ten points for the entire fourth quarter, winning 48-25.

Jordan Dale led the Indians with a career high tying 15 points. Carson Kieffer added 11 and Jace Linenberger 10. Trevor Pierce scored a game high 20 for Ark City who ends their season at 3-18.

Hays (20-1) will host Topeka Seaman (14-7) on Friday in the Sub-State Championship Game. The Vikings beat Maize South (15-6) 73-65.
