Marguerite 'Marg' Rose (Schumacher) Byerley

Marg Byerley passed away in peace on February 1, 2021 in Mission, KS at the age of 87. Marg was born to Conrad and Florence Schumacher on June 15, 1933 in Catherine Township, KS. She graduated from Hays High in 1951. Marg married Thomas James Byerley at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays, KS on December 29, 1951. They enjoyed 54 years of marriage. Tom preceded Marg in death passing on June 27, 2006. Tom and Marg moved to Kansas City in 1957 and to Mission in 1959. They were members of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Mission. Marg worked for the dental practice of Bruce Evans, DDS located in Fairway, KS for 25 years.

In retirement, Marg and Tom enjoyed a love of travel. They traveled to Europe, Mexico, Canada and throughout the country including driving all the way from Kansas to Alaska, not once but twice. For many years, during the late summer, they traveled to Canada to fish with friends. Marg and Tom were avid dancers and belonged to the Merry Mixers Square Dance Club.

Marg is survived by her sister Linda K. Staupp of Liberty Lake, WA, brother-in-law Marvin L. Byerley and his wife Billie of Kansas City, KS and sister-in-law Maria Byerley of Hinesville, GA.

The most important part of Marg’s life was her family. She is survived by her five children: Deborah A. Byers of Prairie Village, KS, Douglas J. Byerley and wife Laurie of Roeland Park, KS, Duane T. Byerley and wife Sandra of Mission, KS, Dennis M. Byerley and wife Donna of Winchester, KS, and David C. Byerley and wife Michelle of Overland Park, KS. Marg was blessed with 13 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and many other loving nieces, nephews and cousins. It was her love of family and her strong faith that gave her the courage to persevere through the loss of her dear husband, Tom, and health issues later in her life.

In accordance with guidance from the Johnson County Department of Health and Environment there will not be a community celebration of Marg’s life. Her service will be limited to immediate family members only. Condolences may be left for the family at www.mcgilleyhoge.com. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorials to be made in Marg’s name to Catholic Charities of NE Kansas.
