HAYS – The TMP-Marian Monarchs softball team remained unbeaten on the season with a pair of wins over Hoisington on Tuesday in Hays.
GAME 1: TMP 10, Hoisington 7
Bria Windholz recorded a career-high four hits and Brynn
Rebel struck out nine as the Monarchs rallied to beat Hoisington 10-7 in the
first game of the doubleheader.
The Monarchs scored the game’s first run on an error in the second inning, but Hoisington answered with three runs in the top of the third for a 3-1 lead.
TMP got a run back in the bottom of the third on the first of Windholz’s four hits.
Each time the Monarchs closed the gap, Hoisington responded.
TMP pulled within one in the third, but Hoisington added two more runs in the fourth for a 5-2 lead.
In the fifth inning, TMP scored on a wild pitch and a Paige Koenigsman sacrifice fly to make it 5-4.
Hoisington answered in the next half-inning with a two-run home run to take a 7-4 lead.
Trailing by three entering the sixth, TMP’s offense came alive. The Monarchs scored six runs in the inning to take a 10-7 lead.
TMP loaded the bases with one out, then scored on a wild pitch, a Koenigsman walk and a Windholz base hit to center field to go up 8-7.
The Monarchs added two more runs in the inning — one on a wild pitch and another on a Raegan Allen single — and Rebel closed it out with a perfect seventh inning.
Windholz finished with four hits and three RBIs.
Rebel (9-0) earned the win, allowing seven runs, five earned, on 11 hits with nine strikeouts.
GAME 2: TMP 6, Hoisington 2
TMP starter Bria Windholz limited Hoisington from the
outset, allowing two runs on six hits in a complete-game effort as the Monarchs
completed the sweep with a 6-2 victory.
Hannah Rose opened the scoring with a steal of home with one out in the first inning. Windholz followed with an RBI single in the second to give TMP a 2-0 lead.
TMP added three runs in the fourth to extend the lead to 5-0.
Rose drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, Brynn Schoepf singled in a run, and Koenigsman drew a bases-loaded walk to cap the inning.
Hoisington scored runs in the sixth and seventh innings. TMP added an RBI single from Rebel in the sixth as the Monarchs secure the 6-2 win.
Schoepf collected three hits in the win, and Rose, Schoepf, Rebel, Koenigsman and Windholz each drove in a run.
Windholz (8-0) allowed two runs on six hits with one walk and four strikeouts.
TMP (18-0, 4-0 MCL) will host Hays High on Thursday.
