A handful of local leaders, including Hays Mayor Sandy Jacobs and State Rep. Barbara Wasinger, along with Hays Parks Department and the Hays Accessible Recreation Complex board of directors, were on hand at noon Thursday at the ARC Park as the splash pad was opened to the public for the first time in Seven Hills Park, 33rd and Hillcrest.
The announcement was made live on Facebook as ARC Park Board President Sarah Meitner turned on the equipment.
Within minutes of being turned on a, few children at the park made their way to the water braving temperatures in the mid-70s to try out the new splash pad.
Meitner said there are a few things to remember before venturing to the new park.
She asks no animals are brought onto the splash pad and no soap or detergent is used in the water as the recirculation of water in the system would cause the park to need to be shut down and cleaned.
The splash pad is scheduled to be open daily from noon to 6 p.m. as long as weather permits.
Meitner said she expects that will be for at least two weeks.
