LIBERAL – The Hays High softball team jumped scored four in the second and that was all they would need as they cruise past Liberal 9-1 in the Western Athletic Conference opener Thursday.
Brynlee Brous had an RBI single, Lanie Becker drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and Brynlee Rupp added a two-run single.
The Indians (3-2) would add three more runs in the fourth. Becker scored on a bunt from Adalie Kippes then Jaylee Summers added a two-run single to put Hays up 7-1. Hays added two more runs in the sixth on singles from Rupp and Summers.
Summers surrendered three hits and one run with nine strikeouts and two walks and picked up the complete game victory.
Summers, Avery Raymer, and Rupp each collected two hits with Summers and Rupp both driving in three runs. Adalie Kippes stole three of the Indians six stolen bases.
Hays has won three-straight and returns to action Tuesday with a single game against Dodge City at Hays High School.
