The TMP-Marian Lady Monarchs soccer team dropped their home opener Monday against Wichita Independent 9-0 at Bickle Schmidt Sports Complex.
Independent led 5-0 at halftime.
The loss drops the Monarchs and coach Shawn Lawson to 0-2 on the season after losing to Dodge City in their season opener Thursday.
Coach Lawson has 12 players out for soccer this year, one of the smallest teams in recent years and three of them are relatively new to the game.
Lawson said they are taking it one step at a time.
"Building on the progress, making sure they don't get down on themselves. Because it's real easy to down on yourselves when you are losing games 10-0, 8-0," Lawson said. "You've got to keep the perspective, make sure they keep the perspective, we're still learning."
The Monarchs will host Nickerson Tuesday at 4 p.m.
