Pleasant Wednesday — then winds will whip the area tonight

After a calm, pleasant Wednesday with a high of 80, the National Weather Service in Dodge City is warning of strong wind moving into the Hays area by 7 p.m.

North winds are expected to be sustained at 30 to 40 mph, gusting to 60 mph. A high wind warning will be in effect from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Thursday. Travel could be hazardous for high-profile vehicles such as semis.

There is a 30 percent chance of showers or thunderstorms in the overnight hours Thursday.

Skies are expected to begin to clear by Friday, with daytime highs Friday through Sunday in the mid- to upper-50s. Overnight lows through the weekend will drop below the freezing point, the NWS said.

There is another slight chance of precipitation Sunday night, increasing to a 30 percent to 50 percent chance of rain Monday and Tuesday.
