DODGE CITY - Austin Carroll of Ellis shot a final-round 84 and ties for 20th at the 2A State Golf Tournament at Mariah Hills Golf Course with a two-round total of 170. It’s the third straight season in which Carroll has medaled at state.
Plainville’s Jayden Morris fired a final-round 76 and missed medaling by one stroke. The Cardinals Noah Brewster tied for 29th after a 91.
TMP-Marian’s Heuer Brungardt was disqualified for signing an incorrect scorecoard. The junior, who was tied for 10th after an opening round 78 on Monday, shot an 84 in Tuesday's final round but signed a scorecard which recorded an 83. KSHSAA rules disqualifies any golfer who signs a scorecoard that is lower than the actual score. Brungardt would have finished in 11th place.
Ellinwood’s Drew Heinz, who shot a 66 in round one, finished with a 74 and won the individual title by eight strokes. Sacred Heart won the team title by 57 shots over Ellinwood. Hoxie placed fifth.
