LIBERAL – For the first time this season, the Hays Larks no longer hold sole possession of first place in the Rocky Mountain Baseball League.
The Liberal Bee Jays built a 7-0 lead through the first two innings and rolled to an 11-2 victory over the Larks in the series finale Wednesday night at Brent Gould Field. The win moves the Bee Jays into a tie with Hays atop the RMBL standings.
Liberal (19-9-1, 16-6 RMBL) capitalized on three walks and two Hays errors to score five runs in the first inning before adding two more in the second.
The Larks (23-6, 16-6 RMBL) scored their only runs in the third and fourth innings. Cooper Holtorf hit a solo home run in the third, and Hays added another run on a wild pitch in the fourth.
Hays struggled with its command and defense throughout the night. Five Larks pitchers combined to issue 10 walks, while the defense committed three errors that led to four unearned runs.
Starter Hank Brown (2-1) suffered his first loss of the season, allowing eight runs, six earned, on six hits over 3 1/3 innings. He walked four and struck out four.
