JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Fort Hays State Men's Golf competed at the MIAA Championships in Jefferson City, Mo., April 13-15 at the Jefferson City Country Club. The Tigers finished seventh out of the 11 teams in the MIAA, while Cooper Scheck turned in another top-10 performance by tying for seventh individually.
The Tigers had three individuals within the top 25. Scheck finished at 2-over par overall to place seventh, while Jordan McCaslin and Chutithep Rungpajchim tied for 22nd, each at 9-over par.
Scheck shot a 1-under par 71 in the opening round before an even-par 72 in the second. He wrapped the tournament with a 3-over 75. He had four birdies in the opening round and backed that with two each in the second and third rounds. Scheck notched his fifth top-10 finish of the season with the result.
McCaslin finished strong by shooting even par in the final round. He started with a 3-over 75 in the first round and 6-over 78 in the second before ending with 72. He had seven birdies throughout the tournament, with four occurring in the final round. Rungpajchim was consistent throughout the tournament, shooting 3-over 75 in all three rounds. He had four birdies and an eagle in the tournament.
Grant McAtee tied for 47th at +18. He shot rounds of 80, 79, and 75. He carded five birdies throughout the tournament. Colby Hays carded three birdies in both the first and third rounds. He posted scores of 77, 84, and 75 to tie for 50th.
Central Oklahoma won the tournament as a team at 11-under par. Central Missouri was 21 shots back at 10-over par. Washburn placed third at 14-over par. FHSU was 35-over par as a team, shooing 298, 304, and 297 as a team.
The MIAA Championships was the final regular season event for the men's golf team. Selections for the NCAA Central/Midwest Super Regional, May 7-9 in Big Rapids, Michigan, will be made in late April.
