HAYS - Lawrence Free State won the Maroon & Gold Volleyball Tournament on Saturday hosted by Hays High School. The host Indians finished in fourth. TMP placed 8th.
Free State and Olathe North both finished 3-0 in their respective pools to earn the top seeds in bracket play. Manhattan and Hays finished runner-up to fill out the championship Gold bracket.
North knocked off Manhattan and Free State beat Hays to advance into the championship match where Free State won in three sets. Free State trailed by ten points on several occasions in the decisive third set before pulling out the championship victory.
Manhattan beat Hays in the third place match.
Rock Creek, Dodge City, Bishop Carroll and TMP made up the Silver bracket. Dodge City won their first match of the day to advance to the 5th place match where they fell to Bishop Carroll. Bishop Carroll defeated TMP in the Silver bracket semifinal. The Monarchs then fell to Rock Creek in the 7th place match.
