GARDEN CITY – The HBC Hammer 15U went 1-2 at the Jim Clanton Memorial Baseball Tournament in Garden City over the weekend.
Friday, the Hammer lost 7-5 to the Liberal Rattlers 16U then Saturday fell 8-1 to Finney County. Sunday they defeated the Dodge City A’s 20-3 in three innings.
Friday’s game with Liberal was tied 5-5 after three. The Rattlers scored two in the bottom of the fourth and held on the rest of the way in the six inning game. Jesse Taggart drove in two runs.
Finney County scored four runs in the top of the first in Saturday’s game. The Hammer outhit their opponent 6-5 but were hampered by four errors which led to four unearned runs. Wes Dreiling had two hits and drove in the only run.
In Sunday’s finale with Dodge City, the Hammer scored all 20 of their runs in the second inning. They took advantage of four walks, five hit batters and five errors in the frame. Bennett Smith and Pierce Schoenberger both had two hits. Jaxson Chartier drove in three runs. Wes Dreiling struck out six over three innings and picked up the win.
The 15U Hammer are now 4-6 on the season. All three Hammer high school teams will play in the Salina Grand Slam Tournament this weekend.
