Arlan H. Johnson

Former Agra resident, Arlan H. Johnson, passed away Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha, KS at the age of 82.

He was born April 16, 1938 in Franklin County, Nebraska near Upland, the son of John H. and Anna L. (Jurgens) Johnson.  Arlan graduated from the Hildreth High School in 1956.  He served in the United States Navy from August of 1956 until he was honorably discharged in July of 1958.

Arlan worked as an electrical lineman for REA-Peterson Electric and the City of Sabetha.  He had a small farm and enjoyed raising livestock.  For the last seven years, he worked at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha, where he buffed many floors for them.  In his free time, he enjoyed woodworking, fishing, spending time with family and friends.  He loved going to the casino and doing yard work. He was a real handyman and enjoyed helping friends, family, and neighbors. “Never Fear, Arly is Here” was heard by many as he announced his arrival.

Arlan was united in marriage to Louise Mason on December 4, 1970 in Sabetha, KS.  She preceded him in death on August 18, 2012.

Others preceding him in death include his parents Henry and Louisa; brother Vern; and a grandson Raymond Nix.

Survivors include his son Mark Verhage and wife Carolyn of Glade, KS; daughters Jean Rice of Richmond, TX, Penny Campbell and husband Randy and Bev Meyer and husband Mark, both of Sabetha, KS; a sister Maxine Sanger and husband Ron of Phillips, NE; 9 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.

A private family service will be Monday, December 28, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg.  The services will be streamed live on the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel Facebook page.  A public burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday afternoon in the Woodston Cemetery, Woodston, KS.

Mr. Johnson will lie in state from Noon until 9 PM Sunday at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with the family receiving friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. that evening for visitation.
