TOPEKA, Kan. - Despite scoring the opening goal, the Fort Hays State women's soccer team fell to No. 24 Washburn 5-1 on Friday (Oct. 2). The Tigers (2-7-1, 0-5 MIAA) took the lead in the 13th minute, but a first half goal from the Ichabods (8-1-1, 4-1) followed by four goals in the final 17 minutes gave the home team the win.

After the Tigers won a free kick near mid-field, Berkley Sparks converted FHSU's lone shot of the half off a pass from Lily Marshall. The Ichabods equalized about six minutes later, but four Katie Stoskopf saves helped keep the game tied 1-1 at halftime.

The Ichbods continued to add pressure in the second half, but the Tigers added five more saves to keep the Tigers in the mix. The Tigers were unable to find the net on three shots in the frame, while the home team finally broke through with four goals in the final 17 minutes to seal the win.

Sparks attempted three of FHSU's four shots, with Grace Prescott putting one shot on frame in the second half. Stoskopf finished with eight saves, one off her season high.

The Tigers will be back home Sunday (Oct. 4, 1 p.m.) when they open a four-match homestand against Newman.
