WICHITA - Hays High allowed runs in just two innings but that was enough for Goddard-Eisenhower to beat the Indians 5-2 Wednesday afternoon in the first round of regional play at the Two Rivers Youth Complex.
Riley Dreher drove in Aubree Thomas for the game's first run in the top of the first inning. Thomas opened the game with a single. It was the Indians' only hit of the game.
Eisenhower struck for two runs in the bottom of the second and three more in the bottom of the third for a 5-1 lead. An error in the bottom of the second allowed the Tigers to take the lead at 2-1. They led off the third with a single followed by a triple for a 3-1 advantage. A run scoring single upped the lead to 4-1 and the fifth run scored on a passed ball.
Dreher scored the second and final run for Hays in the top of the sixth. Two errors by Eisenhower helped the Indians cross the plate.
Thomas allowed five runs (three earned) on eight hits with five strikeouts and not walks over six innings and suffered the loss.
It was the second time Eisenhower beat Hays this season. The Tigers got the best of the Indians 3-2 earlier in the year.
Hays drops their final five games and ends their 2024 campaign at 15-12.
