Kan. man arrested after chase, crash into gas station fuel pump island

RUSSELL COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect following a chase in Russell County.

Just before 7 p.m. Wednesday, a Russell County Sheriff's Office deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a red Honda passenger car for speeding in the 900 block of West Highway 40 in Russell, according to a media release.

The car failed to yield to the deputy's emergency equipment and fled from the deputy. The car led the deputy on a short pursuit and eventually went into the Casey's General Store parking lot in the 200 block of West Wichita Avenue in Russell and struck the fuel pump island.

The driver and sole occupant of the car was identified as Michael Guth, age 32, of Russell. Guth was treated at the scene by Russell County EMS and released for minor injuries then transported to the Russell County Jail for booking.

The Russell County Sheriff's Office is referring and requesting the following charges to the Russell County Attorney's Office: speeding, flee or attempt to elude a law enforcement officer, reckless driving and transporting an open container.

The Russell Police Department will be conducting the accident investigation at the Casey's General Store.
