James 'Jim' L. Bowker

James L. Bowker, 77, of Goodland, KS, died Tues. Oct. 20, 2020 at Goodland Regional Medical Center. 

Jim was born April 13, 1943 in Burlington, CO to Klein P. Bowker and Lucille Willy Bowker. Jim lived in Goodland for most of his life.  He married Sharon Light and together they raised three children.  

Jim worked for over 50 years at the Goodland Daily News/Sherman County Herald and The Goodland Star News.  He was a member of the Brick Top Cruisers, the Goodland Recreation Board, the Goodland Elks Club, and the Northwest Kansas Quarter Horse Association.  Jim was also a Sherman County Volunteer Sheriff.  Jim was very involved in his children’s lives attending every single sporting event, often going back to work after the event to get the results into the newspaper.  Jim loved to volunteer at the county fair.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents; his brother William "Bill" Bowker; and three sisters Alta Mae House, Kay Stephens and Janice Young.

Survivors include wife of 59 years, Sharon Light Bowker; daughter, Robin Bowker Bassett, Eagan, MN; sons Jeff (Margaret) Bowker, Lake Quivira, KS, and Matthew Bowker, Fort Collins, CO; brother Bruce Bowker, Centennial, CO; sisters Carol Tracy and Nancy Michael, of Limon, CO, Phyllis Dering, Ramah, CO, Beverly Bowker, Colorado Spring, CO, and Jacki Sandoval (Sip), Littleton, Co. Jim leaves behind his 10 cherished Grandchildren and 11 Great Grandchildren.

Jim was the consummate storyteller and passionate about antique cars and horses. He spent his free time searching for antique treasures, auto parts, and tinkering with projects.

Services will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2020 at 4:00 PM MT at the Chapel in the Goodland Cemetery.
