LARNED – The TMP-Marian Monarchs managed a split of a doubleheader on the road Friday night at Larned, with the Monarchs picking up a 59-43 win in the boys game while the Larned girls were 47-34 winners of TMP.
GIRLS: Larned 47, TMP 34
The Larned Indians (11—4) used an 11-2 first quarter run and
a 9-1 second quarter run, and then held off the Monarchs in the second half for
the 47-34 victory.
Hannah Rose gave the Monarchs a brief 2-0 lead, but Larned answered with an 11-2 run to build an 11-6 lead after the first quarter.
Rose again put TMP on the scoreboard to begin the second quarter, but the Monarchs' struggles continued on offense, scoring just 11 first-half points.
In the second half, the Monarchs found their rhythm and cut the lead to six on a Claire Schippers three-pointer at 26-20.
But Laned had another run in them, pulling away for the win.
TMP’s Hanna Rose scored 11 points.
BOYS: TMP 59, Larned 43
The Monarchs (9-5) used a pair of big runs to pick up their
second straight win against their former conference rivals.
Trailing 3-0, Ty Schmeidler knocked down his first of four three-pointers in the game for a 3-3 tie.
His second gave TMP the 6-5 lead, and they never relented.
TMP closed the first quarter and opened the second quarter on a 14-5 run, and led 17-4 on a third Schmeidler three-pointer.
Larned (6-9) closed the game to within three at 17-14, but TMP answered with a 34-13 run that covered the end of the first half and the beginning of the second half as the Monarchs built a 51-27 lead.
TMP went on to secure the 59-43 win.
Ty Schmeidler led all scorers with 17 points. Grant Nehls finished with 16 points and seven rebounds.
The Monarchs will take on Plainville, Saturday afternoon in the MCL tournament championship game Plainville.
