Young resigns position on Hays USD 489 board, HHS fees reduced

Hays school board member Sophia Rose Young has resigned her position on the board.

She was not at the meeting Monday, but Board President Mike Walker announced he had received her resignation effective immediately.

She resigned becuase she has moved out of the district to Ellis.

The board is responsible for filling the position for remaining 17 months of Young's term.

Young was in her first term on the school board.

Board reorganization

The board also conducted its annual reorganization Monday night.

The board re-elected Mike Walker to another term as board president.

Craig Pallister was elected as board vice president.

Student fees 

The board approved dropping the technology fee for HHS students from $50 to $25 per year. This would make total fees for HHS students $196 per student, $243 with a yearbook and Spirit Club.

Elementary and middle school fees remained the same.

The board also approved the 2020-21 student handbook.
