1 dead, 4 adults and child injured in NW Kan. head-on crash

NORTON COUNTY —One person died in an accident just before 3p.m. Friday in Norton County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2009 Pontiac G6 driven by Darian W Marston, 21, McCook, Nebraska, was eastbound on U.S. 36 eight and one half miles west of U.S 283. The driver lost control when the car hydroplaned. The Pontiac struck a westbound 2025 Honda Odyssey driven by David A Chappell, 50, Augusta, Kansas, head-on.

Marston was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported to  Plumer-Gobber Funeral Home. EMS transported a passenger in the Pontiac identified as Lily Sheldon to the Phillips County Hospital. She was later  transferred to Good Samaritan in Kearney, Nebraska.  EMS transported Chappell and passengers in the Honda identified as 45-year-old  Lynn N. Chappel of Augusta; 79-year-old Dixie  Labreau of Maize and 11-year-old  Bryson Chappell of Augusta to the Phillips County Hospital. Marston was not wearing a seat belt, according to the KHP.  The Patrol did not have additional information on Sheldon.
