At around 3:15 p.m. the National Weather Service issued a thunderstorm watch for a significant portion of Northwestern Kansas, including Ellis County.
The watch will remain in effect until 9 p.m.
"Thunderstorm chances will continue across the region for this afternoon and this evening," according to the NWS hazardous weather outlook. "The highest threat will be across central Kansas. Strong and severe storms will be possible late this afternoon and evening with half dollar-sized hail and wind gusts to 65 mph. A brief tornado cannot be ruled out."
