LaVerne Madgalene Luebbers, age 85, passed away on Saturday, May 28, 2022, at the Wichita County Health Center in Leoti, Kansas. She was born on January 7, 1937, to Herman & Anna Palkowitsh Kuehler in Lasara, Texas. A resident of Marienthal since 1940, she was a homemaker and office clerk for the FSA offices in Scott City, Kansas, and Lakin, Kansas, and worked for the Wichita County Treasures office.
She was a member of St. Mary’s church in Marienthal, Kansas where she was a volunteer for the Altar Society and a member of the Daughters of Isabella. She volunteered as a member of the Wichita County Hospital Volunteers and served on the Senior Center board. She was a volunteer on the SWKAAA Sub Region 3 Board and SWKAAA board of directors. She was a member of the Patchwork Quilt Guild.
LaVerne married August Luebbers on May 24, 1955, in Sharon Springs, Kansas. He survives.
Survivors include her husband - Gus Luebbers of Marienthal, Kansas, and four sons, Jerome & Darla Luebbers of Leoti, Kansas, Dennis & Mary Sue Luebbers of Hutchinson, Kansas, Bill & Marilyn Luebbers of Leoti, Kansas, Tony & JaLene Luebbers of Garden City, Kansas, two daughters, Berta & Hugh Binns of Scott City, Kansas, Bev & Tim Smith of Paola, Kansas, nineteen grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
LaVerne was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Ralph and Elmer, and one granddaughter, Annie Luebbers.
Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 2, 2022, at St. Mary Church in Marienthal, Kansas with Father Tim Hickey and Father John O’Neil presiding.
Funeral Vigil will be held at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at St. Mary Church in Marienthal, Kansas.
Visitation will be at Price and Sons Funeral Home in Leoti, Kansas, Tuesday, May 31, 2022, from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday, June 1, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
Memorials in lieu of flowers may be written to the Wichita County Long Term Care or St. Mary Cemetery Fund in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home, Po Box 161, Leoti, Kansas 67861. Interment will be at the St. Mary Cemetery, Marienthal, Kansas.
