Carter Fellers of WaKeeney is one of three northwest Kansas winners in the 2022 Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day poster contest. The contest is sponsored annually by the Kansas Department of Transportation and other traffic safety organizations.

Fellers received first place in the 8- to 10-year-old age group for the northwest region. He was awarded a bicycle from the Kansas Turnpike Authority and helmet donated by Safe Kids Kansas.

The poster contest aims to encourage youth to think about traffic safety and present their ideas through their artwork. A total of 497 Kansas kids ages 5 to 13 participated this year.

Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day is a nationwide effort to increase roadway safety and reduce all traffic fatalities. For more information, visit KDOT’s Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day website.
