KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Kansas City Royals announced today they have acquired right-handed pitcher Randy Dobnak from the Seattle Mariners for cash considerations. Dobnak has been selected to the 40-man roster and optioned to Triple-A Omaha.

To make room for Dobnak on the 40-man roster, the Royals transferred left-handed pitcher Cole Ragans to the 60-day IL.

Dobnak, 31, signed a minor league contract with Seattle last Nov. 17, and has gone 5-5 with a 4.24 ERA (33 ER in 70.0 IP) in 13 starts with Triple-A Tacoma this season.

He has posted quality starts in each of his last 4 outings with the Rainiers since May 27, and his 6 quality starts this year rank tied for 3rd in Minor League Baseball.

Dobnak has pitched in parts of five Major League seasons, all with Minnesota (2019-21, 2024-25), going 9-12 with a 4.86 ERA (76 ER in 140.2 IP) across 39 career appearances (21 starts). He made the Twins Opening Day roster in 2025 and spun 5.1 innings of 1-run ball on March 30 vs. the Cardinals in St. Louis, after which he was outrighted to Triple-A St. Paul and did not appear in another game in the Majors. He was acquired by Detroit with right hander Chris Paddack on July 28, 2025 for catcher Enrique Jimenez and spent the remainder of the season with Triple-A Toledo, where he appeared in 9 games (8 starts) and registered a 3.79 ERA (16 ER in 38.0 IP).

He was signed by the Twins as a minor league free agent in 2017 out of Alderson Broaddus University (W. Va.) and made his MLB debut on Aug. 9, 2019 vs. Cleveland, tossing 4.0 scoreless innings in relief. Later that season, he became the fourth rookie Twins pitcher (sixth instance) to start a postseason game in Game 2 of the 2019 ALDS at Yankee Stadium.
