Fort Hays State Men's Basketball plays host to Manhattan Christian on Saturday at 2 p.m. inside Gross Memorial Coliseum. This is the fourth-straight year the Tigers host the Thunder. FHSU holds a 3-0 record against MCC all-time and won last year's game back a score of 75-46. FHSU enters this game at 2-2 overall on the season, while MCC is 3-7 overall.
The Tigers are coming off an 84-59 win over Central Christian on Tuesday afternoon. The result kept FHSU perfect against CCC, now 23-0 all-time and 21-0 with Mark Johnson as head coach. Kaleb Hammeke led the Tigers with 17 points and matched his career high in assists with nine. In the process, Hammeke became the fourth player in program history to break the 1,600-point mark, sitting poised to make another big move up the career scoring list at FHSU soon.
Hammeke now has 1,612 points in his career at FHSU, which puts him just four shy of moving to third on the all-time scoring list and 20 shy of moving to second. Raymond Lee is the next on the list at 1,615 points, then Mark Wilson currently holds second at 1,631. Hammeke has already joined the pair as the only three players in FHSU history to have at least 1,600 points and 400 assists in a career. He is averaging 13.3 points per game and ranks second in the MIAA in assists per game, shelling out 5.5 on average.
Fort Hays State continues to have four players average double figures in scoring. Joining Hammeke are team-leader Shaun Riley (14.5 per game), Kyle Grill (13.5), and Traejon Davis (10.0). Both Riley and Grill have reached double figures in scoring in three out of four games. Both had career highs in points in FHSU's win over South Dakota Mines back on November 19.The Tigers have been strong at ball possession so far this season, averaging just 7.8 turnovers per game. That ranks second nationally for the young season. FHSU has scored at least 60 points in all four of its games this year and has held the opposition under 60 in both of its wins.
