🏀TMP boys come up short against Life Prep

HAYS - The TMP-Marian Monarchs come up short in the final non-league game of the regular season Friday night after Life Prep Academy 62-58.

The Fire opened the game with a 4-0 lead but the Monarchs stormed back to take a 14-6 lead. Dylar Werth scored seven points in the first period and Jace Wentling added four more as the Monarchs built a 14-9 lead after one quarter of action.

Down five Life Prep opened the second quarter on a 10-2 run to go up by three at 19-16.

The Monarchs briefly retook the lead at 21-19 before Life Prep outscored the Monarchs 11-2 to build a 30-23 lead.

TMP trailed by five at halftime and trailed by eight to open the third quarter before catching fire from three.

After making just two 3-pointers in the first half the Monarchs connected on six of them in the third quarter as they put together a 24-5 run to take a 45-40 lead. But Life Prep combined to make four 3-pointers in the period as TMP took a 51-48 lead into the fourth quarter.

The fourth quarter saw Life Prep double up TMP 14-7 on their way to the 62-58 win.

The 62 points was the most allowed since the second game of the season when they gave up 75 to Lawrence Free State.

TMP’s Gavin Unrein led four Monarchs in double-figures with 13 points. Bryce Seib finished with 12 points and Dylan Werth and Kenton Ginther each added 11 points.

The TMP boys and girls will close out the regular season Tuesday at Plainville.
