Pennie L. Spencer

Pennie L. Spencer, age 60, of Great Bend, Kansas passed away on Saturday morning, January 29, 2022, at the University of Kansas Health System–Kansas City, Kansas. 

Pennie was born on May 22, 1961, at Hutchinson, Kansas to Alan and Annabelle Nadine (Wenger) Spencer.  She graduated from the Garden City Community College School of Cosmetology and was a Licensed Cosmetologist for many years. She also worked at Larned State Hospital and later as a Home Health Worker for Sunflower Diversified Services in Great Bend. In recent years, health issues had prevented her from working, but Pennie loved Buy-Sell-Trade shopping online and bought and sold antiques.  She loved history – especially Titanic-related history. Pennie was very involved with her grandchildren, and was known for her tremendous inner strength, even as she faced her own mortality.

Pennie is survived by her 3 sons:  Jason E. Spencer (& Brian Culver) of Hutchinson, Kansas; Ryan (& Kathryn) Shull of Salina, Kansas; and Steven Shull of Utica, Kansas; seven grandchildren: Ayla, Lily, Gracie, Olivia, and Aiden Shull and Emily and Zachary Douglas; two sisters:  Brenda Love of Hoisington, Kansas, and Cathy Savolt of Salina, Kansas; nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Wesley Spencer and a sister Linda Shaffer.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 11, 2022, at Charter Funerals in Great Bend, Kansas with Pastor Rose Marie Zook Barber officiating.  Interment will be at 3:00 PM on Friday, February 11, 2022, at the Hartford Cemetery in Hartford, Kansas.  Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, February 10, 2022, at Charter Funerals in Great Bend.
