A cold front moving through Hays Thursday about 8:40 p.m. brought welcome rain and some small hail.
According to the official report from the K-State Agricultural Research Center, 0.55 inches of rain fell in Hays with pea-sized hail. The storm's highest wind gust of 52 mph was measured at 9:35 p.m.
Hays is still about three inches behind in rainfall for the year.
As of May 13, the moisture total is 4.82 inches; the 153-year cumulative average by the end of the month is 7.81 inches.
All but the extreme northwest corner of Ellis County (3 down, 5 right from map's top left corner) is currently in a severe drought, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor released Thursday.
