Paul Douglas Brown Junior passed away on December 16, 2020, age 92, at
the Good Samaritan Home in Atwood, KS where he spent his final years
overlooking Lake Atwood and the golf course. Whether enjoying a game of
golf, hustling a game of pool at the clubhouse or enjoying an afternoon
cocktail and Dutch Masters cigar, the golf course is somewhere he truly
found peace.
Paul had a passion for farming and made it his life’s work. He passed on
his love of farming and gardening to his children. Long after his
retirement from farming, Paul could be seen cruising the country roads,
checking out the wheat, milo and corn.
Paul was a caring son, husband, father, grandfather and friend to many.
He cherished gathering with family and taking the grandkids hunting and
fishing. He was often enlisted to play Santa, and had the figure to play
it well. Paul had a tough exterior but once he let you in, he was a
warm and gentle man. He had a firm hand but gave the best hugs. Only a
man like Paul could make the term “half pint” sound endearing - and we
are all honored to be his “half pints”.
Paul was born and raised in Atwood, where he married the love of his
life, Shirley Edwards, and raised their three children: Dana, Gerald
(Jerry) and Doug, all of whom preceded him in death, along with his
parents, Paul and Florence (Flossie) Sawer Brown and his siblings Edith,
Robert and Rhea.
Paul is survived by his grandchildren: Montica O’Barr, Craig Minkner, Russell Minkner, Thomas Brown, Lisa Brown, Jessica Capes, Austin Germer, Michelle Carnes, April Green, Tiffanie Craig, Kali Woofter and Kelsey Miller; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
May his smile, strength and integrity carry
on in all those he touched.
No services are scheduled at this time. Paul will be inurned in Fairview Cemetery, Atwood.
