Hays receives rain over weekend; heat set to hit on Thursday

Since 6 a.m. Friday, Hays received .61 inches of rain as measured at the Eagle Communications office at 2300 Hall in Hays.

Hays has received 1.85 inches of rain for the month and 7.81 inches of precipitation year to date, according to the K-State Ag Research Center. 

Hays averages 3.38 of rain in June and 11.31 inches of precipitation by the end of June.

As of the drought monitor released on Thursday, Ellis County is still showing moderate drought to abnormally dry.

The forecast calls for a 20 percent chance of rain Tuesday afternoon and Thursday night. Hays will have more chances of showers or thunderstorms on Friday night and Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

Today's high is forecasted at 83, but temperatures will steadily increase to a blistering 101 on Thursday.
