KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Fort Hays State baseball's Cade Flaherty has been named MIAA Pitcher of the Week, announced Monday by the league office.

Flaherty set the tone for the Tiger pitching staff this weekend, opening the series against New Mexico Highlands with a complete game shutout. The junior struck out seven batters in 7.0 scoreless innings of work, allowing just three hits, all singles. He retired the first 10 batters he faced and never faced more than four batters in an inning. Flaherty did not allow a baserunner past second base all day. The Tiger defense aided Flaherty's effort with three double plays in the shutout victory.

Flaherty is the first Tiger to earn a weekly conference award since Elliott Herrmann picked up MIAA Hitter of the Week honors early in the 2023 season. He is the first Tiger pitcher to earn the award since Sammy Sanchez in 2022.The Omaha, Neb. native lowered his season ERA to 0.50 across three starts and 18.0 innings of work, lowest in the MIAA. He has helped the Tigers to a team ERA of 2.88 through three games, second-best in the conference and 12th-lowest in Division II.

Flaherty and the rest of the Tiger baseball team will take their 10-2 record into conference play this weekend when they host 14th-ranked Missouri Southern in a three-game series Friday through Sunday (Feb. 23-25). First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. each day.
