NW Kansas woman dies after crash during u-turn on I-70

THOMAS COUNTY—One person died in an accident just before 9a.m. Saturday in Thomas County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2015 Ford F-250 driven by   Leonardo  Gonzalez, 51, Wheat Ridge, Colorado, and a 2011 Ford Ranger driven by Jane Nutting, 69, WaKeeney, were westbound on Interstate 70 just west of the Oakley exit. 

Both vehicles were in the driving lane. The F250 was approaching the Ford Ranger and moved into the passing lane. The driver of the Ford Ranger attempted to make an illegal U turn, according to the KHP.  The F250 struck the Ford Ranger. Both vehicles came to a rest in the median.

Nutting was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported to  Baalmann Mortuary.  EMS transported Gonzalez to the hospital in Oakley. He was not wearing a seat belt, according to the KHP.
