Hays High School was locked late in the school day on Friday due to an incident in the neighborhood.
According to a message to parents, the Hays Police Department requested the district at 2:25 p.m. to secure doors due to an attempted armed robbery in the area.
Staff and students remained inside and no visitors were allowed into the building.
The go-ahead for a systematic dismissal has been given by the HPS, the district reported just after 3 p.m.
