ANDOVER - The Hays High softball team defeated Andover 7-1 Saturday to go 1-1 at the Central Showdown.
The Indians (11-12) struck early with three in the first then added two in the third. After Andover scored their lone run in the top of the sixth, HHS plated two more in the bottom of the inning for the final margin.
Hays gets their first three runs on a Brynlee Brous single to left. They add their second run on a passed ball then Brooklynn Dinkel singled home the third.
Brous and Dinkel had sacrifice flies to push the lead to 5-0 in the third.
Jaylee Summers, Brynlee Rupp and Shae Augustine each had two of the Indians seven hits. Brous drove in two runs and Summers and Adalie Kippes both scored twice.
Avery Raymer picked up the complete game victory allowing the one run on seven hits with seven strikeouts and two walks.
Hays has won three of their last four. They host Garden City in a single game Tuesday then close out the regular with a doubleheader on Friday (May 14).
