SALINA – The Ellis baseball team defeated Canton-Galva 4-2 to advance to Thursday night’s 2-1A regional title game at Salina’s James Matson Field, but the Railers lost to top-seed Little River 10-3 in the championship game.
The Railers end their season with a 13-7.
Game 1: Ellis 4, Canton-Galva 2
Easton Burton’s double with two outs in the second drove in Caleb Noble with the go-ahead run and what proved to be winning run.
The Railers scored two in the first on a groundout and a wild pitch only to see the Eagles answer with two in the top of the second.
Burton picked up the complete game victory allowing two runs on eight hits with nine strikeouts and one walk.
Game 2:
Little River 10, Ellis 3
Ellis led 3-2 in the fifth, but the Redskins scored seven runs in the bottom of
the inning. The Redskins using two walks, three hit batters, three singles and
a double to blow the game open.
Ellis took the early lead with a run in the first on Jarret Mader’s triple which scored Easton Burton who opened the game with a single.
The Railers added two more runs in the third on Mader’s two-run single to push their lead to 3-1.
Matt Ernst took the loss allowing four earned runs on six hits with one strikeout and three walks.
