TOPEKA — Governor Laura Kelly this week appointed Rebecca Faurot of Scott City to the judgeship position in the 25th Judicial District. The position was created by the retirement of Judge Wendel Wurst.
“Faurot is a level-headed and dedicated public servant,” Kelly said. “I am confident the 25th Judicial District will benefit from her continued public service from the bench.”
Faurot is the County Attorney for Scott County and the City Attorney for Leoti and Scott City. Faurot is active in the legal community serving on the Kansas Board for Discipline of Attorneys and as a member of the City Attorney’s Association of Kansas, the County Counselor’s Association of Kansas, and the Kansas Bar Association.
“I am truly honored to be chosen from such distinguished applicants,” Faurot said. “I will work hard to serve the 25th Judicial District as an objective and open-minded judge.”
District court judges in the 25th Judicial District are appointed by the governor and selected from nominees chosen by a district nominating commission. Judges in nominating commission districts are subject to retention elections every four years.
The other nominees selected by the district nominating commission were Brian R. Sherwood, Christopher J. Velez, and Lara Blake Bors.
