The Hays Police Department has promoted Derick Nordell to detective.

Nordell officially began his new investigative role Aug. 17, according to the City of Hays Police and Fire Facebook page.&nbsp;

The department announced the promotion Tuesday, congratulating Nordell and thanking him for his continued dedication to keeping the Hays community safe.

As a detective, Nordell will take on an investigative role within the department.
