⛳ Plainville's Marquess finishes runner-up at 3-2-1A State

CHENEY, Kan. – Anna Starbuck made quite a splash at her first high school championship event. The Colby freshman won the individual title at the 3-2-1A State Golf Tournament at Cherry Oaks Golf Course in Cheney. After shooting a 77 in Monday’s first-round, Starbuck closed with an 81 in the final round on Tuesday and finished at 14-over-par at the two-day event.

Plainville sophomore Corbyn Marquess, who was four shots back of Starbuck after day one, shot an 84 in the final round and placed second, seven shots off the pace.

Colby’s Brinley Sims finished in eighth place with a 185 while teammate Mya Betz tied for 18th.

Colgan sophomore Ali Scripsick placed third, seven back of Marquess.

TMP-Marian’s Allison Applequist finished in 25th placed. After shooting a 98 Monday the senior closed with a 101 Tuesday for a 199 total. The Monarchs Amelia Herrman improved her score by 20 shots Tuesday. The freshman shot a 234.

Pittsburg-St. Mary’s Colgan won the team title with a two-day total of 713. Colby finished second at 735 and Cimarron third at 779.
