HAYS - Hays High hosted Dodge City for the first of three games the two conference opponents will play this season. Hays won their four consecutive game with a 13-3 victory of the Red Demons.
Hays (4-2, 2-0) jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first inning after an error scored two runs. Avery Raymer added to the lead scoring on a wild pitch for a 3-0 lead. Dodge City (0-5, 0-3) got one of those runs back in the top of the second.
The Indians scored six runs on three hits in the bottom of the second inning. Brynlee Brous singled to drive in two runs. Lanie Becker followed with a single to score Brooklyn Dinkel and increase the score to 6-1. Brynlee Rupp's two-out single scored two more runs to cap the inning at 9-1.
Highlights
Hays added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after Brous doubled to score Raymer. Brous scored a run on a Dodge City error for a 11-3 advantage.
Aly Herl led of the fourth with a triple and later score on a Shae Augustine sacrifice fly for a 12-3 score. Raymer led off the fifth with a single and then scored on Becker's single to end the game at 13-3.
Hays drew six walks in the game and was hit by five pitches.
Raymer, Brous and Becker each recorded two hits. Raymer scored three runs while Brous and Kaylee Kollman each scored two. The Indians also stole ten bases.
Lanie Becker earned the win for the Indians. The starter surrendered three hits and three runs (one earned) over five innings, striking out six and walking three.
