👟 Plainville boys and girls win regional title

SMITH CENTER – The Plainville boys and girls both brought home the team titles at Friday’s Smith Center 2A Regional Track and Field Meet. Both teams had two individual first place finishes and won a relay. The girls scored 86 points, 20 better than Stanton County. Ellis finished fifth with 47 points. Trego was 12th with 13. The boys scored 65 points, five ahead of second place Smith Center and seven better than third place Stanton County. Trego finished in eighth place with 44 points. Ellis finished 11th with 20.

Plainville’s Jada Rathbun and Gracie Kerns both qualified for next week’s state meet in three events. Rathbun finished second in the 100 and 200 meters. Kerns won the triple jump and was second in the long jump. Both were on the winning 4x100 meter relay team along with Zoe Brown and Kadence Bruso.

Emma Rudman qualified in two events. She won the discus and placed second in the shot put. Abby Reif was also a two event qualifier, finishing second in the discus and third in the shot put.

Janey Eilers was the other Cardinals to quality for state after a second place finish in the 100 meter hurdles.

Anders Dewey and Carter Cellmer are both headed to state in three events. Dewey finished first in the 100 meter hurdles and second in the 300 hurdles. Cellmer was third in the long jump and triple jump. Both were on the winning 4x100 meter relay team along with along with Ethan Hamilton and Draxtin Hovis.

Braylon Bittel won the discus and was fourth in the shot put. Madden Staab placed second in the high jump.

Ellis qualified six girls in seven events. Madi Russell finished second in both the 1600 and 3200 meter runs, Emily Eck was second in the 400, Makenna Kohl finished second in the 800, Addison Kohl third in the 100 hurdles, Isabella Eck fourth in the high jump and Natalie North fourth in the discus.

The Railer boys get three to state. Rex Johnson finished second in the javelin, Dakota Metzler was third in the pole vault and Mason Younger fourth in the pole vault.

The Trego boys qualified three individuals in five events and one relay. Gunner Wilson finished second in the triple jump and fourth in the 400 and was on the fourth place 4x100 relay along with Cole Feldt, Owen Day and James Kriegh. Day was one of two regional champs, winning the javelin. Charlie Russell won the shot put and finished second in the discus.

The Golden Eagle girls qualified two girls. Myuh Mattheyer finished third in the triple jump and Annabelle Malsam fourth in the javelin.
