⚾TMP sweeps Ellis for first wins of season

HAYS – The TMP-Marian offense carried the Monarchs (2-4, 2-0 MCL) to their first wins of the season Tuesday as they sweep their MCL rivals Ellis 7-5 in game one and 16-2 in game two.

GAME 1: TMP 7, Ellis 5
The Railroaders opened the game with a four-run first inning, taking advantage of an error and scoring runs on a wild pitch, a pair of passed balls and a bases loaded walk.

With Ellis leading 4-0, freshman Cade Dinkel came in with two outs in the first and stranded a pair runners and then proceed to allow just one run over the next six innings helping the Monarchs rally for the victory.

Down 4-0, the Monarchs began chipping away at the Ellis lead, scoring three in the bottom of the first.

Joey Mindrup got the rally started with a one-out single. That was the first of four straight singles for the Monarchs with Kendall Walker driving in a run and Dinkel adding two more cutting the Ellis lead to 4-3.

Ellis added another run in the second taking a 5-3 lead.

Railer starter Ian McGuire retired 10 straight Monarchs as Ellis held onto the 5-3 heading into the fifth inning. But that was the inning the Monarchs offense was able to score four runs on three hits taking a 7-5 lead.

After a single by Adler Brown and Ian Nehls reached on an error Mindrup singled in the first run of the inning. Carson Liles added a sacrifice fly and then Dinkel added his second two-run single of the game putting TMP up 7-5.

Dinkel picked up his first win of the season. He allowed just one run on nine hits over six and a third innings.

Mindrup finished two-for-three with two runs scored and an RBI.

Game 2: TMP 16, Ellis 2
The Monarchs offensive production continued to play well into game two, scoring 10 runs in the fourth inning in a 16-2 run-rule victory.

Ellis loaded the bases in the first three innings of game two against TMP starter Carson Liles but managed just one run over the three innings while the Monarchs built a 6-1 lead through three innings.

The Monarchs scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Joey Mindrup opened the inning with a one-out walk, he then scored on an error. Carson Liles, who reached on the error scored on a Garrett Feauto RBI single. TMP added two more runs on an error for a 4-0 lead.

Up 4-0 the Monarchs got three straight walks to open the second inning TMP scored on a wild pitch and added a second run in the inning on a Caden Dinkel sacrifice fly.

Trailing 6-0, Ellis added single runs in the third and fourth cutting the TMP lead to 6-2.

Leading by four the Monarchs offense exploded for 10 runs in the fourth inning. They collected eight singles in the inning while sending 15 to the plate.

Treger Williby, Adler Brown, Kendall Walker, Dinkel and Feauto all drove in a run with RBI single as the Monarchs secured the 16-2 run-rule victory.

Liles earned the win, his first of the season, with three innings. He allowed just one run on two hits with a season-high eight strikeouts and seven walks.

Mindrup scored four runs and Feauto and Dinkel each drove in a pair of runs.
