A winter weather advisory and a wind chill advisory have been issued for Ellis County and much of northwest Kansas.

The National Weather Service in Dodge City said the wind chill advisory will go into effect at midnight and remain in effect until 11 a.m. Thursday. Winds are expected to gust up to 40 mph and wind chills as low as 20 below zero are predicted.

The chill is expected to bring snow  to the area along the Interstate 70 corridor, as well. Up to 2 inches of snow are possible beginning late Wednesday and continuing to Thursday morning. The gusting winds could lead to drifting and lack of visibility for drivers.

A high temperature of just 12 degrees is predicted Thursday, with the low dropping to 3 degrees.
