The National Weather Service in Dodge City has issued red flag warnings for several southwest counties today and Tuesday, including Ellis County.
The warnings are in effect from 1 to 8 p.m. today and Tuesday. By mid-afternoon today, sustained winds of 15 to 25 mph and gusts of up to 35 mph are expected.
Tuesday's forecast will consist of stronger winds, sustained at 25-40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph. Minimum relative humidity will be higher, reaching up to 15%.

A Winter Storm Watch has also been issued for Wednesday. High winds are expected early in the morning to affect west-central and southwest Kansas, including Ellis County.
Strong winds and heavy snow, creating blizzard conditions, will be the primary threat. According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, the greatest chance for these impacts is along and north of KS-96.
Blizzard conditions are also possible in northwest Kansas Tuesday night and Wednesday, accroding to the National Weather Service in Goodland.
Total snow accumulation of 2 inches is expected. WInds could gust to 55 mph.
