
Richard J. Bogner, 84, died Tuesday, April 5, 2022, at The Ranch House
in Garden City, Kansas. He was born December 9, 1937, in Scott City,
Kansas the son of Jacob & Agnes (Droste) Bogner.
Richard moved with his family to Wright, Kansas where he attended
elementary and grade school. He then attended and graduated from high
school at St. Mary of the Plains in Dodge City. Richard then earned a
football scholarship to play at Hutchinson Junior College. After
graduating from Hutchinson, Richard served in the Army National Guard.
On June 10, 1961, he married Karen Reimer in Ingalls, Kansas. They
lived in Dodge City until 1971, when they moved to Garden City. They
have lived in Garden City since. After moving to Garden City Richard
worked as owner and operator of Buffalo Industries and Supreme
Management, and since 1981 has been owner and operator of Bogner Oil
Field Services.
Richard was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church in Garden City
and the Knights of Columbus #2795. He enjoyed sports, playing golf,
playing cards, dancing, and he especially loved to take care of his
family.
Survivors include his wife Karen Bogner of the home; three children
Charlene Bigley of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Jake & wife Sally
Bogner of Yukon, Oklahoma, and Paul & wife Stephanie Bogner of
Garden City, Kansas; a brother David & wife Janice Bogner of Wright,
Kansas; three sisters Pauline Kristek of Salina, Kansas, Phyllis Hauver
of Naponee, Nebraska, and Agnes & husband Tom Walsh of Topeka,
Kansas; five grandchildren Jennifer & husband Brandon Kornele, Tara
Jones, Kristen Morgan, Kimberly & husband Ryan Harp, & Jeffery
Bogner; a Step-grandson Jason Bigley; eight great-grandchildren; and one
step great-grandchild. Richard is preceded in death by his parents; 2
sisters Mary Schaller and Angela Williams; two brothers Arnold Bogner
and Andrew Bogner; a son-in-law Robert Bigley; and a great-grandson
Bennett Morgan.
Vigil service and Rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, April
10, 2022, at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Garden City. Funeral Mass
will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 11, 2022, also at St.
Dominic Catholic Church with Rev. Warren Stecklein as Celebrant. Burial
will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. Friends may call
from Noon to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City.
The family suggests memorials given to the St. Dominic School
Endowment fund, in care of the funeral home.
