Fort Hays State Men's Basketball returns to its home floor on Thursday night (Feb. 10) when it plays host to Rogers State. Game time is set for 7:30 pm, which follows the women's contest at 5:30 pm. The Tigers enter at 16-4 overall, 11-4 in the MIAA, and received votes in the latest NABC Top 25 Poll. The Hillcats are 14-8 overall and 8-6 in the MIAA.
Fort Hays State enters this game in third place in the MIAA standings, just 2.5 games back of the conference lead held by Northwest Missouri State at 14-2. The Tigers are two games back of second-place Central Oklahoma.
The Tigers are coming off a loss to then No. 16 ranked Central Oklahoma last Saturday in Edmond. That snapped a five-game win streak for the Tigers. They look to win their third straight at home on Thursday night. The last two home wins triggered that five-game win streak prior to the loss at UCO. FHSU is 10-2 at home this season with its only losses to teams currently in the Top 25 of both national polls.
The Tigers will be looking for a split in the regular season series with Rogers State after falling in Claremore earlier this year by a score of 58-51. The Tigers shot their lowest field goal percentage of the season in that contest, just 31.9 percent. It was the only game this season where the Tigers limited their opponent to less than 60 points and lost.
Fort Hays State continues to rank second in the nation in scoring defense, allowing 59.4 points per game. The Tigers have held nine of 12 opponents to less than 60 points at home this season.
Jared Vitztum continues to lead the Tigers in scoring at 15.3 points per game and rebounding at 10.0 per game. Kaleb Hammeke is adding 14.9 points per game and leads the team in assists, averaging 3.6 per game.
Devin Pullum is the only player on the Hillcat roster averaging double figures in scoring at 17 points per game. Jordan Corbin, Brewster Peacock, Joey Saracco, and Tylan Dean all average just shy of 10 per game.
