Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. announced Monday he will participating in the T-Mobile Home Run Derby at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas on July 15.
Witt grew up just north of Arlington in Colleyville, Texas and his dad, Bobby Witt, played for the Rangers for 11 of his 16 major league seasons.
The 24-year-old Witt will be making his first All-Star Game appearance and will become the member of the Royals to participate in the Home Run Derby and first since Salvador Perez in 2021. The other Royals who have participated at Bo Jackson (1989), Danny Tartabull (1991) and Mike Moustakas (2017).
Witt is one of four Royals named to the American League All-Star team joining catcher Salvador Perez and pitchers Cole Ragans and Seth Lugo
