
Georgine “Jeanie” Staab, age 92, of Hays, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at Via Christi Village in Hays.
She was born on May 15, 1934, in Hays to John G. and Margaret (Koerner) Befort. On November 4, 1953, Jeanie was united in marriage to Martin J. “Matt” Staab at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Munjor, Kansas. Together they shared 64 years of marriage and family memories. Matt preceded her in death on November 1, 2017.
Jeanie was a devoted homemaker and a longtime employee of Hays Medical Center, where she worked in the housekeeping department for more than twenty years. She took great pride in caring for her home and family and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her family was important, and she especially enjoyed following the activities of her grandchildren.
Jeanie also enjoyed looking through cookbooks, baking, and working alongside Matt on their many home projects. She was a faithful member of St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church.
She is survived by her son, Gary Staab of Hays; two daughters, Sherri Ruder and husband Rich of Munjor, and Debbie Werth and husband Dave of Hays; eight grandchildren, Chad (Jackie) Ruder of Hays, Nichole (Randy) Sauer of Hays, Landon Staab and significant other Sandi of Boise, Idaho, Logan (Natalie) Staab of Hays, Brandon (Amanda) Werth of Liberty, Missouri, Matthew (Jen) Werth of Hays, Cory (Donielle) Werth of Hays, and Tyler Werth of Hays; and eight great-grandchildren, Shannon, Amy, Sadie, Connor, Bladyn, Bodhi, Penelope, and Maxwell.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Matt; her parents, John and Margaret Befort; and two sisters, Verna Herl and Wilma Schoendaller.
Funeral services will be June 13, 2026 starting at 10:00 AM at St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church in Hays. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph's Cemetery, Hays. Fr. Fred Gatschet will officiate.
Visitation will be 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM on June 12th at Keithley Funeral Homes and Crematory-Brock's Chapel 2509 Vine Hays, KS 67601 with a combined parish vigil and rosary at 6:30 PM.
