HAYS – The TMP-Marian Monarchs ran their win streak to four straight games Thursday as they completed a doubleheader sweep of the Holcomb Longhorns at home winning 7-3 and 11-1.
GAME 1: TMP 7, Holcomb 3
Both teams struck early in the first game of the
doubleheader before the Monarchs rallied late for a 7-3 victory.
Holcomb got on the board first in the top of the first before TMP answered with an RBI single from Ian Nehls in the bottom of the inning tying the game at one.
The Longhorns got two more in the top of the third inning and held onto that lead until the bottom of the fifth inning.
The Monarchs scored four runs in the inning, building a 5-3 TMP lead.
Braxton Basgall got the scoring with a sacrifice fly making it 3-2.
The Ty Schmeidler, Logan Baalman and Adler Brown added three straight RBI singles putting TMP up 5-3 through five innings.
Carson Liles capped off the Monarchs victory in game one with a two-run single making it 7-3.
Baalman earned the win on the mound for TMP.
In his first career start, he recorded his first complete game victory. He allowed three runs, one earned with four walks and nine strikeouts.
All but two Monarchs recorded a hit and all but three Monarchs drove in a run.
Nehls and Baalman each collected a pair of hits for TMP. Liles drove in two runs.
GAME 2: TMP 11, Holcomb 1 (5 innings)
The Monarchs offense carried its success over from game one into the first two innings of game two on their way to an 11-1 win in five innings.
The Monarchs wasted little time getting on the board in game two scoring five runs in the first and four more in the second.
Ian Nehls singled home the game's first run forr TMP in the bottom of the first inning. Nehls then scored on a bases loaded walk and Adler Brown collected his first of three RBIs in game two putting TMP up 3-0.
TMP also scored on an error by the catcher and a Jacob Seib walk to make it 5-0 TMP.
The second inning was more of the same with TMP scoring on a Ty Schmeidler RBI groundout, an error, a stolen base and a Connor Breit single for a 9-0 TMP lead though two innings.
The lead was more than enough for TMP pitcher Carson Liles who allowed just one run on one hit with three walks and three strikeouts in five innings.
Brown capped of the game with a two-run double in the bottom of the fourth inning putting TMP up 11-1 on their way to the run-rule victory.
Brown was 1-for-3 with three RBIs.
Baalman scored three times for TMP. He and Liles each collected a pair of his for the Monarchs.
TMP improved to 5-1 with the victory and will travel to Ellinwood on Friday.
