Kan. woman hospitalized after semi strikes semi's rear axel

CHEYENNE COUNTY—One person was injured in an accident just after 6p.m. Friday in Cheyenne County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2019 Peterbilt semi driven by Johnson, Heather Joann Johnson, 47, Concordia, was southbound on Kansas 27 seven miles south of U.S. 36.

The vehicle struck the struck the rear axels of a 1998 Kenworth semi driven by Chelli Dee Smith, 58, Kanorado, that had left the stop sign on County Road E turning north on K27.

The Kenworth continued north on Kansas 27 before coming to rest in the west ditch. The Peterbilt continued south left the road and entered the ditch. 

EMS transported Johnson to Cheyenne County Hospital. Smith was not injured. The KHP did not have seat belt information on the drivers.
